MRU 2Q06 Turn Around

I would like to thank TIMEC for making the MRU 2Q06 Turnaround a success.  My experience with TIMEC is that they get in and do the job safely, reliably and on or ahead of schedule.  This turnarount had several challenges which were overcome with great ease due to the dedicated people of TIMEC.  I would like to give special thanks to several people listed below for their help.

Donald Brown
As site manager Donald Brown has always made himself available regarding my turnaround needs.  Don attended all my turnaround meetings and provided expert opinions to both mechanical questions and manpower issues as they came up.  Don was very flexible when my needs changed making my problems his problems.  He would move his personnel around to provide the kind of support that ensured the turnaround would be completed in a safe manner.

Richard Labarga
Richard Labarga was my Turn Around planner.  Rich is the kind of guy who takes his job very seriously.  He’s a true professional when it comes to turnaround planning.  Rich is my number one choice when I need a planner for any turnaround.  Rich takes full ownership during every phase of the turnaround.  There are many times that a turnaround challenge comes up and Rich makes one or two phone calls and gets the turnaround right back on track.  The success of this turnaround is due to Rich’s tireless efforts and I owe him a big thank you.

Ricky Piedra
It takes a lot of people to make a turnaround a success.  When I pick my turnaround team I will always ask for Ricky to be my day time TIMEC foreman.  Ricky is the kind of person who can take my work direction and prioritize the work list and his people to get all the work done in a safe manner.  I’ve seen him in action on a lot of turnaround’s and he will jump in with both feet and make the hardest job look like a walk in the park.  Ricky always has an eye on safety to make sure that everyone on his crew is being safe and doing the job the right way.  I can’t think of one job that Ricky has been on that had to be re-accomplished for any reason.  I would recommend Ricky for Foreman of the Year.

Joe Racutt
Joe Racutt was my TIMEC turnaround expediter.  To me, Joe is like Radar on the TV show MASH.  Joe always has the keen perception of knowing what my needs are before I ask him.  He has organized the material lay down yard for not only my two turnaround’s but also for another turnaround going on at the same time.  I had reservations about combining the materials for three turnaround’s into one lay down yard but I could see early on that with his organization skills it would be no problem for me to get the parts I needed in a timely manner.

I wish I could recognize everyone from TIMEC that made this turnaround a complete a success.  Without everyone coming together to make TIMEC what it is the turnaround would have failed for sure.  Thanks to all from TIMEC.

I would like to acknowledge the efforts and support that was provided by TIMEC during the Spring Turnarounds. The success of the Turnarounds could not have been achieved without the dedication of the Fifth Section and Tool Trailer groups. BP would like to recognize and thank those crews that helped support this endeavor. Please extend this gratitude to those individuals that may have been left off of the list below.

Sincerely,

Commendations and recognition go to Gene Mitchell for the excellent performance displayed during the execution of critical repairs on numerous disaster valves in S&H propane and butane storage system. This critical work was a result of a Process Safety Management (PSM) / Regulatory Compliance Audit which require immediate resolution. Gene displayed excellent leadership and a high level of initiative throughout the execution of the repairs. Gene had the ability to deal with ambiguity and make sense of a work scope that was not specifically defined and complete the audit action items in a timely manner. Gene was very sensitive to the fact that the work was unbudgeted and completed the work in a cost effective manner.

Thanks go to Gene Mitchell & his crew for a job well done at the just concluded 4 Lift Station Shutdown which started on May 15 & was completed June 2, 2006. Gene had shown his leadership, hardship & dedicated work ethics to the people he had worked with at the said unit.

Letter of Commendation issued to Scott Hamilton and Benito Lee for spotting a fire and preventing this situation from spreading.

Chevron SLC Refinery achieves two years without a recordable injury. During that period we have worked 325,000 man-hours of mechanical, welding, scaffolding, insulation, laborer, I&E and catalyst work involving all sister companies. Achievement of this milestone is attributed to the dedication of all of the TIMEC companies working together as a true team toward creating an Injury Free work environment. Our consistent focus on remaining injury free one day at a time will allow us to celebrate many more of these milestones in the future.
